Intimate hygiene products are specialised personal care items designed to cleanse, protect, and maintain the health of the external genital area (including the vulva or penis), without disrupting the delicate balance of the skin or mucosal microbiomes. 

Types of intimate care products include:

• Cleansers and washes

• Wipes

• Moisturisers and balms

• Deodorants or freshening sprays

• Pads, liners, and tampons

• Probiotic supplements

We are all different, and determining whether or not intimate care products are necessary is up to the individual. 

There are definitely occasions when some people will find that intimate hygiene products are warranted, but for most, basic water should be sufficient in cleansing the intimate area. Overuse of intimate hygiene products, especially those with harsh ingredients, may lead to irritation, dryness, or infections such as bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections. 

At Maebl, we are committed to developing products that have a genuine and legitimate reason to exist with formulations that complement and benefit the intimate area while reducing the chance of irritation or reaction.

The main tasks of the skin microbiome are to protect and strengthen the skin barrier against pathogenic microorganisms and to maintain the appropriate pH value of the skin surface. Microbiome-friendly products respect the balance of the skin microbiome, leaving it intact.

• Maebl products have been formulated in accordance with New Zealand’s Cosmetic Products Group Standard 2020.

• All of our products are developed together with an international team of chemists who have an in-depth knowledge of raw ingredients and creating natural formulations that benefit the skin.

• Each product has been dermatologically tested by professionals for use on sensitive skin meaning they are more likely to be safe for regular use and less likely to cause allergic reaction.

• Each product has been tested by MyMicrobiome and certified microbiome-friendly for either the vaginal microbiome or vulvovaginal microbiome.

All Maebl products are free from perfumes and artificial fragrances, but, we understand the importance of scent, especially when it comes to intimate care. With this in mind, we have developed our products to ensure they have either no discernible smell or a pleasant yet subtle scent, naturally occurring within the ingredients already used in our formulations.

Maebl products have been formulated using food grade ingredients from predominantly natural and organic sources, but specific product testing has not been done to confirm they can be safely used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional before using our products.
